To start, stop, or restart named on the H-Sphere DNS server, log in
as root and run the respective command below.
WARNING:
Don't use kill -9 to stop named, as it may cause information loss!!!
Linux:
starting: /etc/rc.d/init.d/named start
stopping: /etc/rc.d/init.d/named stop
restarting: /etc/rc.d/init.d/named restart
FreeBSD:
For Bind 9.3 and up:
starting: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/named.sh start
stopping: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/named.sh stop
restarting: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/named.sh restart
For Bind 8.x:
starting: /usr/sbin/named -u named
stopping: /usr/sbin/ndc stop -u named
restarting: /usr/sbin/ndc restart -u named
Warning: Without "-u named", the command will run under root.
Usually, an H-Sphere DNS server contains a cron DNS check
which starts every 1 or 2 minutes and, if named is not started,
starts it. Therefore, don't feel alarmed if you stop named and see
that it keeps working for another several minutes.
